6th of March 2013

Got to sleep in a little today, as we didn't any any tours in the morning. Which I am very thankful for. These 4am wake up are a little annoying for someone like me who likes to sleep in and relax while they're on holiday. Though the 4am wake up are worth it in the sense that we get to see and experience something wonderful.

The funny thing though is that I had the weirdest dream, so I'm not sure if it had anything to do with the place where I am or just my thoughts taking a moment to settle my subconscious. If you know of the old TV show JAG, in the dream I was one of the navel lawyers and everyone was in the process of chasing someone who escaped or just someone they had to find as they did something wrong. Everyone (within my dream) thought that this person had taken off by plane and I was trying to convince everyone else that they had escaped by train even though all the evidence proved that it was by plane that the person escaped. It doesn't make any sense and I'm pretty sure it's just my thoughts settling... but made me wake up with a confused look. Also I wasn't the only one who had a weird dream as well, my cousin Nathalie had one too.

After we both got dressed and ready, Nathalie and I had to pack up our luggage as we were both heading to Kings Canyon. So we took our time packing to make sure that we hadn't forgotten anything and then at 11am left our luggage at reception so we could quickly get a bite to eat before we headed off. We decided this time to have lunch at the small cafe that is within the Town Centre, thinking that maybe the prices wouldn't be as expensive, but we were wrong. Still expensive to eat here just as everywhere else. Afterwards we stopped off at the local IGA store so I could pick up some snacks just in case during the journey to Kings Canyon we would get peckish, then headed back to reception to wait for our bus.

When we got on the bus we were informed that the journey was over 300kms long, which mean it'll be at least 5 hours until we get to our destination. During the whole ride there was nothing really to see apart from desert, grass and burnt flora and fauna due to the bush fires that were here recently. After an hour or so we had a quick 10 minute break to see Mt Conner and have a few pictures with it. Apparently a lot of people confuse it with Uluru even though it doesn't look anything like it. Though I guess if you've never seen Uluru before and this was the first you see I can understand.

We then took off again and I had a bit of a nap on an off. We came up to a cross road where we dropped some people off who were catching a bus to go straight to Alice Springs, instead of going to Kings Canyon. Then an hour later we stopped at Kings Canyon station for a toilet break and to stretch our legs. There were a couple of camels there, and I went inside to buy a ice cold drink. Was a little odd seeing a couple of asian girls behind the counter. Mostly because this was in the middle of no where, and seeing two asian girls who couldn't understand most of the orders that were taking seemed a little odd. But then again there was a guy who worked there who I heard speak and had the wierdest accent that I've come across. It seemed as though it was a mixture between a bunch.

We took off again and arrived at Kings Canyon resort about 50 minutes later. When we got into our rooms there wasn't much of a view, though to be honest it was in the middle of no where. I thought Yulara (the area where our hotel Desert Gardens is) was extremely cut off, this is even worse! There is only the hotel and a little across the road is a pub/cafe and a service station. The resort didn't have a place to eat so we decided to watch the second part of 'Much Ado About Nothing' with David Tennant before we headed over to the pub for a bite to eat.

Before we headed to the pub we decided that while there was still a bit of sun we would head off to the look out and see the view around us. When we crossed the road we noticed that the lookout had been through the bushfire so there wasn't much of a platform. We though the place was a little odd and that there were no signs saying that it was closed. Nathalie pointed out that the place looked as though it went through a zombie apocalypse, with how deserted and burnt the area look. It wasn't until we made our way to the pub and saw the signs saying that lookout was closed that it all made sense. Though why they didn't have signs leading to the lookout is beyond me.

The prices here for dinner were just as bad, if not worse then that back at the previous hotel. Though I guess we are in the middle of no where so there really isn't much competition. So we ordered a pizza between us before heading back to our room. Which is when we noticed the night sky again, and was just in awe at how many stars we could see!

Once we arrived back at the hotel, Nathalie went straight to sleep and I decided to watch TV for a little while. As I came across a show called Parade's End, which stars Benedict Cumberbatch which I headed heard of before. So I stayed up wanting to watch all of it. It wasn't that much of a bad show, but felt that it went for a little too long.
