Got to sleep in this morning, but not as much as I really wanted to. As I had an hair dressers appointment at 11am and we had to make s detour to pick up one of mums friends as they were having a treat for themselves that day as well. Would have loved to splash out on a facial for mum and I, but by the time I had booked it, it was already full and I was very lucky to have the appointments which I did. So when I got out of bed just after 9am I quickly went to have my morning coffee before I started to get ready and head out.
The one of the many little reasons why I find it annoying about being female - or at least an older female - is that you can no longer just go into the hair dressers any more for a quick cut. Well you could, but you reach a certain age (in my case it was from the age of 16) that you start to get a lot of white hairs on your head. Lucky (or unlucky I guess) for me is that it has always been at the top of my head. No escaping it or trying to hide it, unless I try for some weird Donald Trump comb over. So I have to colour my hair frequently, and it just sucks.
Anyways, despite the ranting the place where I go to does have a lovely bunch of stuff and they are not only pleasant people, but they also always remember the last conversation that you had with them. While I was getting my hair done they were explaining to me about a theatre restaurant in Liverpool called Fright Night. Basically it is very similar to Dracula's that on the Gold Coast, and after looking at the website I really really want to go! I remember having loads of fun at Dracula's, and I'm pretty sure this would be very similar.
Afterwards mum dropped off her friend back home, and we both headed to the shops. Since it's my birthday tomorrow I decided to spoil myself and buy a couple of nice things for my self. Now.. I always love having my birthday so close to Mother's Day, as when Mother's Day is approaching and there's all those lovely special, part of my goes into the whole selfish mode and makes me feel pretty awesome that they've decided to reduce their stuff cause of my birthday. Especially this year because my birthday is on Mother's day.
Now aside from that... there is one big major problem with having your birthday on or near Mother's Day (doubly so now that I'm older), as people think that what ever you're purchasing is for your mother. I went into a book store, and decided for the heck of it to treat myself to another book ( as it came in three books), and the sales assistant looked at me and said well it is Mother's Day tomorrow, you should spoil yourself. Hope the kids will spoil you. And I just looked at her blankly and said, it's my birthday tomorrow.. I have no kids. I felt like adding, yes I know it is weird for a woman over the age of 30 who lives in Mt Druitt not to have any kids, but I am an exception of the rule.
Afterwards I went into JB Hi Fi and went to looked for the first two seasons of Doctor Who, and I was surprise to notice that they didn't have any in stock. So when I went up to the guy and asked for it, he told me he didn't have any left, but Penrith and Blacktown did have a few in stock. I told him I kinda needed it for today, to which he responded I can always order it for you so you wont disappoint your mum on mother's day. Which I then also gave him a blank stare and said it was for my birthday tomorrow! Gah!
Oh well, despite all that I didn't go empty handed and did come across a Dirk Gently season one DVD which I never new existed, then rushed on home to get ready for the evening with my friend Rocio. Since I had got home at about 5pm, I watched an episode of Star Trek before getting ready so she could pick me up at 7pm.
I had a fantastic night at the Sydney Comedy Festival, which I saw the Ethnic All Stars. I was a little concerned at first as I hadn't heard of the names before, but they didn't disappoint at all. When we turned up we saw one guy who I am hoping was the MC just outside the room dressed up as a Banana and I'm only guessing he was the MC as the Sydney Comedy Festival mascot is a gorilla. But had a fantastic night, and was very thankful to my friend Rocio who took me out as a gift for my birthday. Especially since it has been a very long time since I've been to see a live stand up show, even since a member of Tripod insulted Spike from Buffy... does he not understand the whole Joss Whedon fandom thing? Bah!
When I got home it was very close to midnight and mum had just finished wrapping up my present, and said that it was Ok for me to open it. So I brought out her mother's day present for her to open as well. I had already bought the official one a few weeks back, which was a Samsung Tablet (see no Apple stuff!) but this was just a small thing for her to open. I actually waited until it hit midnight to open my present and was surprise to see The Sims 3 University game! Woot! She had also bought me a lovely owl Necklace a few weeks ago which I wear constantly.
